CUMBERLAND CUP QUARTER FINAL
V BROUGHTON RED ROSE (AWAY) 3/2/2007
WON 14-16
Maryport reached the semi-final of the Cumberland Cup with a fantastic victory at Cumbria Cup winners Broughton Red Rose.
Remarkably, the Port came from a half time deficit of 10-0, tries from Matthew Jackson and Chris Wood and a David Thurlow conversion giving the Rose the lead.
Maryport fought back with an unconverted try from winger Michael McMullen in the 2nd half, before Brett Hill squeezed in at the corner for the Rose to regain their ten point lead.
Many thought the game was as good as over but nobody told the youthful and energetic Maryport side.
Firstly, loose forward Matthew Burns touched down a Alan Telford grubber kick, Ben Waugh adding the conversion to pull within four points.
In the final minute,Maryport threw caution to the wind and after keeping the ball alive, substitute hooker Waugh was on hand to scamper over under the posts. He then kept his nerve to add the match winning conversion.
A great game between 2 young sides played at a high tempo, with the winners Maryport earning a cross-town derby semi-final against Glasson Rangers.

AMATEUR CUP QUARTER FINAL
V COCKERMOUTH TITANS (AWAY) 10/2/2007
WON 6-12
Maryport won their second quarter final in succession with this hard fought win at 2nd Division Top Four hopefuls Cockermouth Titans.
With the pitch being heavy and the weather poor, the game was never going to be a free flowing game but both teams are to be commended on a display full of commitment and toughness.
Maryport opened the scoring through prop Scott Adams, who was on hand to take the final pass after a piece of magic from substitute Simon Pattinson, who sold the dummy and went through a rare gap in the Titans line. Pattinson converting.
The first half was littered with mistakes from the Port, with Cockermouth being camped on the Maryport line for long periods.
This pressure eventually told with Cockermouth loose forward Leam Wild diving over, second rower Matthew Nawrockyj converting. Half time 6-6
The first score of the second period went to Maryport, through a Simon Pattinson penalty. Nawrockyj had a chance to level soon after but slightly pulled his penalty attempt.
There was a feeling that the next try would win the came and it came from young Maryport substitute Daniel Rooney, who burst through the Cockermouth defence from 25 meters out and rounded the full back for a great individual try. Pattinson missed the conversion attempt.
With both teams fatiguing, Cockermouth gave it all they had in the last minutes, but couldnt find a way over the stubborn Maryport defence, therefore it was Maryport who progressed to the semi final where they will face Hensingham, who, ironically, the face next week at home in league action.
A mention must go to young 18 year old winger Jonathan Morgan, who started his first game on the wing and done well.

Resilient Maryport were eventually beaten in extra time by Kells in a game which was played in near arctic conditions on the Copeland sides` Welfare Pitch.
Kevin Agnew and David Dickinson both crossed for early tries for Kells to build up an 8-0 lead but that was cut back by captain Mark Foster who touched down, with Simon Pattinson converting.
But Kells held a six-point advantage at the break, following a try from Ryan McGuinness.
Kells broke through again after the restart with John Young touching down to make the scoreline 16-6 but Maryport raised their game and hit right back.
Ian Ivison crossed the whitewash with Pattinson again adding the extras and then James Jackson got the crucial try with just seconds left in normal time and forced the sides to go into extra time.
But it was Kells who fought through the tiredness best and picked up the win and a place in the final, thanks to tries from Tyrone Dalton and Sean High, plus two Tony Burns conversions and a Dickinson drop-goal.

CUMBERLAND CUP SEMI FINAL
V GLASSON (AWAY) 31/3/2007
16-16 A.E.T.
MARYPORT WIN ON THE AWAY TEAM RULING
Maryport and Glasson played out a bruising semi-final, played with all the passion and pride of a town derby.
In bizarre circumstances, the competition rules state that if the scores are level after extra time and both teams have scored the same amount of tries and goals, the away team goes through.
Glasson opened the scoring with ex Workington Town centre Matthew Johnson crossing wide out, loose forward Lee Taylor missing the conversion.
Maryport full back then picked up a Glasson kick on his own 20 metre line and burst through the defence. He had the pace to score under the sticks with Simon Pattinson converting.
The scores stayed at 4-6 until a Maryport drop out went out on the full, Taylor kicking the penalty from bang in front. Half time 6-6.
Maryport 2nd rower Lee Ferguson was the first to cross in the second half after a good move. Pattinson failing with the conversion attempt.
Glasson equalised through big 2nd rower Nicky Crellin, who barged his way over from 1 metre out from dummy half, Taylor missing the conversion. Full time 10-10.
Into extra time and with both teams tiring, Maryport winger James Jackson crossed wide out, Pattinson adding a splendid goal.
But Glasson were not finished and after gaining possession from the kick off, Crellin barged over for his second try of the game, Taylor improving. 16-16 at the end of extra time.
With both teams preparing for sudden death golden point, phone calls to the league management from both club officials resulted in the rulebook stating that if both teams are level on points, tries, goals and drop goals after extra time, the away team go through.
Understandably, Glasson were dismayed at the news but Maryport jubilant. It wasnt the best way to end this terrific encounter but the rulebook was the decider.
Maryport will look forward to the final against Elbra, whereas Glasson will be concentrating on gaining promotion and a clean sweep of the 2nd Division trophies.
