Maryport tried hard against a much bigger Wath Brow side in the friendly fixture today.
Maryports lone try coming after good drives upfield from the forwards and then a long looping pass from the stand off Craig Foster, found winger Brett Stevenson, who finished off well, despite the sliding Wath Brow defence. Craig Foster missed the conversion

Maryport lost this match against one of the favourites for the League, but gave 100% for the full 50 minutes.
The Maryport side was considerably smaller than their counterparts and this told in the end.
Maryport scored tries in the second half through hard working hooker Nathan Kirkbride, who shrugged off numerous tackles to crash over in the corner, and winger Reece Alderson, who showed good speed and awareness to catch Brow napping on the blind side.
Unfortunately, neither try was able to be converted from the touchline.

Maryport extended their lead through Forrester after interpassing with Foster and good lead up work from the forwards. Foster converting.
Salterbeck then hit back with an unconverted try. Half time 12-4 to Maryport.
In the second half, the conditions worsened but an outstanding defensive performance prevented a Salterbeck fightback.
Second rower Ellis Nixon scored his first try of the season after an enthusiastic chase from a kick on the last tackle. The conversion was missed.

LEAGUE GAME
V KELLS (H) THURSDAY 27/4/2006
DREW 10-10
This game was an excellent advert for junior rugby at this age group, with both teams showing outstanding commitment and passion in both defence and attack in front of a healthy crowd.
Maryport took a 4-0 lead through two Craig Foster penalty goals, capitalising on some Kells indiscipline but on the stroke of half time, Kells scored direct from a scrum but the conversion was missed, half time 4-4.
Maryport regained the lead mid way through the second half when Sam Forrester sliced through from a scrum, converted by Foster.
Unfortunately for the home side, they could not hang on as Kells came back with a converted try in the last five minutes of the game to tie the scores up once more. Maryport had one more set but just as they were lining up a drop goal attempt, the referee blew for full time.
Both teams are to be congratulated on an outstanding game, with defences dominating and they are sure to provide the same entertainment in future meetings this season.
Next up for Maryport is a home game against a Salterbeck side looking to avenge their 16-8 home defeat against the Port on Sunday 30/4/2006.

LEAGUE GAME
V SALTERBECK (H) SUN 30/4/2006

Maryport struggled to defeat an enthusiastic and committed Salterbeck side in this Bank Holiday Sunday clash.
The efforts of the Kells game from 3 days earlier possibly affected the team but all credit to Salterbeck.
Maryport scored 5 tries which included a brace from loose forward Craig Foster, one from stand off Sam Forrester and first tries of the season for hooker Paul Vickers and substitute Darren Pape.
Foster converted two of the tries.

LEAGUE GAME
V EGREMONT (A) WEDNESDAY 3/5/2006
LOST 20-4
Maryports 5 game winning run came to an end against a big Egremont side played on a narrow field, which didnt really suit Maryports style of play.
In a sometimes bad tempered affair, Maryport had to make numerous substitutions, some through some suspected foul play from the Egremont side.
Egremont opened up an 8 point lead going into the half time break through two unconverted tries. Half time score 8-0 to Egremont.
Maryport had a purple patch for 10/15 minutes in the second half but unfortunately could only manage one unconverted try in the corner from substitute winger Jordan Branthwaite after good build up from the forwards and good link play from the backs.
Egremont though pulled clear with two converted tries in the last 5 minutes to leave a final scoreline of 20-4 in the Copeland sides favour.

V ELBRA (H) TUESDAY 9/5/2006

Maryport came up against a big Elbra side on a warm evening and were on the wrong end of a 58-4 scoreline, with possibily their most disappointing performance of the season.
Maryport were 48-0 down before workhorse prop Daniel Fidler barged his way over following a string of penalties against Elbra. The conversion was missed.

LEAGUE GAME
V WATH BROW HORNETS (A) TUESDAY 16/5/2006
LOST 38-0
Maryport battled well in this clash against the league leaders and probable champions Wath Brow.
Wath Brow blew the visitors away with 4 early tries to establish a 24-0 lead but Maryport stuck to their task and restricted the brow to only 14 more points in the game.
The visitors were also unlucky not to score after being camped in the Brow half for long periods but ultimately could not break the unbeaten Hornets down.
The lads put maximum effort in which was all that was asked by the coaching staff.

LEAGUE GAME
V KELLS (A) TUESDAY 6/6/2006
LOST 24-21
These two teams picked up where they left off in their last game with another outstanding contest which had everything.
Maryport travelled with a bare 13 players but were confident of picking up the two league points, which they felt they should have done in the first game.
The game was end-to-end throughout with both teams playing free flowing rugby and displaying tremendous defence.
The scores were tied at half time 10-10, with stand off Sam Forrester and winger Reece Alderson scoring tries, loose forward Craig Foster converting one.
Maryport opened the scoring in the second half with an unconverted try from Forrester but Kells hit back to lead 20-14 with ten minutes to go but Forrester completed his hat trick with an almost carbon copy of his second try. Foster converted to ensure a tense finish.
On their next set of six, the Maryport forwards laid a good platform for Foster to kick a drop goal from 15 metres out but Kells had the last laugh with a last minute try from their prop forward in the corner.
Maryport had no time to recover and the two points went to the Copeland side.
Both sides should be congratulated on a fantastic game and a draw would have possibly been the fair result.

Maryport trailed at the break by 20-6, their try being scored by Sam Forrester after a tremendous break by workhorse Daniel Fidler, converted by Craig Foster.
The second half was a lot closer, with Elbra scoring two converted tries to Maryports one, scored by Grant Law and converted by Foster.
This performance will hopefully fill the lads with a bit more confidence for what looks like a tough run in.

TOP FOUR SEMI- FINAL
V WATH BROW (A) WEDNESDAY 28/6/06

Maryports reward for a good season was a fourth placed finish and a top four semi final clash with champions Wath Brow.
Maryport understandably went into the games as overwhelming underdogs but in the end were beaten by a much bigger and experienced side.
Maryport did score 3 well worked tries but were perhaps a little bit disappointed in not capitalising on more chances and turning the ball over regualrly, but ultimately, were well beaten but hopefully will learn from the experience.
The Maryport try scoreers were winger Brett Stevenson, stand off Sam Forrester and second rower Grant Law, all converted by loose forward Craig Foster

COUNTY CUP SECOND ROUND
V BROUGHTON RED ROSE (A) SUNDAY 2/7/2006
WON 8-22
Maryport got back to winning ways on a very hot day at Papcastle Road.
An excellent first half put Maryport well in command, leading 22-0 at half time after some good attacking work and aggresive defence.
Maryport tired in the second half in the baking conditions, therefore drifting from the gameplan, allowing the gutsy Broughton side back into the contest with two unconverted tries but the damage was done in the first half with tries from Brett Stevenson, Scott Akehursts first of the season, Shaun Hargreaves and Ellis Nixon, with 3 conversions coming from the boot of Craig Foster.
This win sets up yet another semi final, away at Elbra
